Need machines for your site? We arrange construction equipment hire in Kigali by the day, week or month, with trained operators for heavy machinery and delivery to your plot. Hiring is usually far cheaper than buying for a single project, and the right machine can save days of manual work on Kigali's sloping plots.

Equipment available

Equipment Typical use Usually hired
Excavator Foundations, trenches, site clearing, cutting slopes, loading spoil With operator
Backhoe loader Smaller excavation, trenching and loading on tight sites With operator
Roller Compacting road bases, driveways and large platforms With operator
Plate compactor Compacting hardcore under slabs, paving and trench backfill Without operator
Concrete mixer Slabs, columns, foundations. See concrete mixer hire With or without operator

Props and formwork Supporting suspended slabs while concrete gains strength Without operator
Crane Lifting materials on larger buildings With operator
Water pump Clearing water from trenches and excavations in the rainy season Without operator

Equipment for each stage of a build

Most house projects need different machines at different times. Booking them in the right order keeps the site moving.

Stage Equipment usually needed
Site clearing and levelling Excavator or backhoe loader, tipper trucks for spoil
Foundations Excavator for trenches, water pump in wet weather, plate compactor for backfill
Ground slab Plate compactor or roller for hardcore, concrete mixer, poker vibrator
Columns, beams and upper slabs Concrete mixer, poker vibrator, props and formwork, scaffolding
Walls, plaster and paint Scaffolding
Driveway, paving and external works Roller or plate compactor, mixer for kerbs and channels

If you are building with us, we schedule equipment as part of the programme. If you are managing your own build, send us your timeline and we will help you plan bookings so machines are not standing idle.

Choosing the right machine

  • Size to the job and the access. A large excavator moves more earth per hour, but many plots in areas such as Kimironko, Gisozi or Nyamirambo sit on narrow, steep roads. A smaller machine that can actually reach the plot is often the better choice.
  • Count the full cost. Compare the day rate, plus transport both ways, plus operator and fuel, against how many days the job will take.
  • Combine tasks. If one excavator can clear the site, dig foundations and load trucks in one booking, you save a second delivery.
  • Book compaction with excavation. Proper compaction of hardcore under the ground slab prevents cracking later.

How hiring works

  1. Tell us the equipment, the job, hire period, start date and site location using the form.
  2. We confirm availability and send a quote showing rate, operator, fuel and transport.
  3. Prepare the site: clear access, mark out the work, locate underground services.
  4. Delivery on the agreed date, with a quick handover and safety briefing.
  5. Collection at the end of the hire, or extension if the job runs over.

Rates (as of October 2026)

Rates depend on machine size, hire period, operator, fuel and transport distance, and they move with fuel prices, so we quote each request individually. Contact us for a current quote. What affects your price:

Factor Effect
Hire period Weekly and monthly rates are lower per day
Operator Adds a daily cost but improves output and safety
Fuel Included (wet) or paid by you (dry)
Transport Low-loader for heavy machines, charged by distance
Site conditions Rock, mud or steep access slow the work

Safety on site

Heavy machines are among the main hazards on a building site. Rwanda's occupational health and safety rules, set out in Ministerial Order N°02 of 2012, require employers to provide protective equipment such as helmets, safety shoes, gloves and high-visibility vests. With hired equipment we also ask that:

  • [ ] only the named, trained operator uses heavy machines;
  • [ ] workers keep clear of the excavator's swing area;
  • [ ] trench sides are supported or sloped back before anyone enters;
  • [ ] scaffolding has guard rails and is checked before each use;
  • [ ] machines are parked on firm ground away from trench edges.

Hiring in the rainy season

Rwanda's rains fall mainly from March to May and September to December. Wet clay slows excavators and rollers and can make access roads impassable for low-loaders. Book excavation for drier spells where you can, keep a water pump on standby to clear trenches, and allow a few spare days in the hire period during the rains.

Frequently asked questions

Does the equipment come with an operator?

Heavy machines such as excavators, rollers and cranes are normally hired with a trained operator. Smaller equipment such as plate compactors, mixers and scaffolding can be hired without one. Your quote states clearly which applies.

Who pays for transport to site?

Moving heavy machines needs a low-loader truck, which is usually charged separately and depends on distance and access. Small equipment is delivered by pickup or truck. Transport is shown as its own line in your quote.

What is the minimum hire period?

Usually one day for most equipment. Weekly and monthly rates are lower per day, so if a job may run over several days it is often cheaper to book a week.

How much does it cost to hire an excavator in Kigali?

Rates depend on machine size, hire period, operator, fuel and transport distance, and they change with fuel prices. Contact us with your job details, site location and dates for a current quote that lists each cost separately.

Is fuel included?

It depends on the machine and the hire terms. Some rates include fuel; others are dry hire where you pay for fuel used. The quote states which, so you can compare like with like.

What if the machine breaks down?

Tell us immediately. Breakdowns caused by normal wear are our responsibility to repair or replace. Damage caused by misuse, overloading or an unauthorised operator is normally charged to the hirer under the hire terms.

Do I need anything ready on site before delivery?

Yes: a clear, firm access route, a level spot to unload, the area marked out, and for excavation, the location of any underground water pipes or cables. Delays on site while the machine waits are usually charged.
